Biography

  • Dr. Phimon Atsawasuwan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Diplomate for the American Board of Orthodontics.
  • Dr. Atsawasuwan began his education at the Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree (1993), Certificate in Clinical Science - Periodontology (1995) and M.S. in Periodontology (1996). He continued his education at the Eastman Dental Institute in London, England where he received his M.S. in Periodontology (1997). Dr. Atsawasuwan went on to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to complete his Ph.D. in Oral Biology (2008) and his postdoctoral degree in Biochemistry (2003). At the University of Illinois at Chicago, Dr. Atsawasuwan received his M.S. in Oral Sciences (2011) and his Certificate in Orthodontics (2011).  
  • Dr. Atsawasuwan’s research interest is emphasized on accelerated tooth movement, craniofacial/bone biology and advances in orthodontic treatment. His research involves clinical research, bench-top molecular biology research, cell culture and animal research. He has received numerous research funds from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, the American Association of Orthodontist Foundation, the University of Illinois at Chicago and many private organizations.
