Dr. Bourin was Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Nantes, Nantes, France, where he has been Head of Research in the Neurobiology of anxiety and depression from 1985 to 2009.  He was also an adjunct professor of the Department of Psychiatry at Edmonton University in Alberta, Canada and is still a visiting professor at the University of Craiova in Rumania. 

He is currently a WHO expert for drug dependency and psychiatrist in handicapped people structure .

Dr. Bourin has been a member of numerous international medical and psychiatric societies, including the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP, British Psychopharmacology Association (BAP). He is also a Fellow of the Collegium Internationale Neuro-Psychopharmacologicum.

He is Doctor honoris causa of Tartu University (Estonia) and Craiova  University (Romania)

Dr. Bourin has a long publishing history, with more than 300 original articles in the field of psychopharmacology and psychiatry, and more than 250 educational/review articles or book chapters, in both English and French.
