Graduated in Medicine at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (1988), master's degree in Public Health from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (1994) and PhD in Health of Women and Child by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (2002). He is currently associate professor of the Institute of Studies on Public Health, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
