Dr Sivalal Sadasivan is a public health physician currently attached to the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University Sunway Campus, Malaysia, and also practices in a local private hospital. He first worked in the Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia hospitals, before moving to the central offices of the MOH where he was involved in the acquisition of medical devices and drugs for hospitals. He was also involved in formulating the first national Essential Drugs List. Dr Sivalal set up the Health Technology Assessment programme in MOH, and coordinated the development and implementation of clinical practice guidelines, being also designated the Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Evidence Based Practice in Health Care in Malaysia. He was also involved in the MOH Quality Assurance programme. Dr Sivalal has carried out consultancies in Pakistan, Iran and Indonesia, and more recently, on health technology policy formulation and medical device regulation in Sudan. In addition, he has had publications in peer-reviewed journals, and has made numerous conference presentations both locally and internationally. He has served on the editorial boards of International Journal of Technology Assessment in Health Care, Turkish Journal of Health Technology Assessment and International Journal of Collaborative Research on Internal Medicine & Public Health, and is currently on the editorial board of the Open Journal of Preventive Medicine. He is also a regular reviewer of the Asia Pacific Journal of Public Health, Malaysian Journal of Public Health and WHO publications
