Dr. Alberto Martínez Serrano (PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) is Professor at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain), and leads the research group in Human Neural Stem Cell Biology, at the Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa, [CBMSO] in Madrid (Spain). He is also Scientific Director of the Department of Molecular Neurobiology at the CBMSO. His research focus is on the potential use of stem cells for regenerative therapies for chronic neurodegenerative diseases (cell replacement, gene therapy). He has published over 80 research papers in peer-reviewed journals, and holds 3 patents related to stem cell uses for treating neurodegenerative diseases. He was also scientific consultant for the biotech company NsGene A/S (Denmark), and is member of the Editorial Board of Cell Transplantation, Future Neurology and Frontiers in Neuroscience journals. In addition, he is also a regular member of the evaluation panels for granting programs of the EU, such as H2020, ERC, IMI-JU.
