Biography

Professor Andrew Collier is a Consultant in General Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology at Ayr Hospital, Scotland; Professor of Diabetes Care at Glasgow Caledonian University; and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Glasgow University.

Professor Collier completed much of his medical training at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. He held the positions of Senior Registrar in General Medicine and Diabetes at Gartnavel General Hospital, Glasgow and Senior Registrar in the Renal and MRC Blood Pressure Units at the Western Infirmary, Glasgow.

He has published over a 100 articles for scientific journals and has co-written 2 books and written chapters for 2 textbooks. Professor Collier has acted as principal investigator or co-investigator for a number of clinical trials, including the INSTIGATE, NAVIGATOR and Post-PROACTIVE studies. He has also been involved with developing an informational DVD, funded by the Scottish Government, for people newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and their carers. He is currently undertaking collaborative research in the areas of metabolic syndrome, diabetic foot ulcers (foot microbiome) and foot ulcer off-loading.

Professor Collier is a member of Diabetes UK, the British Endocrine Society, the American Diabetes Association and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. He is also a member of the Council for the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh), Executive Committee of the Scottish Diabetes Research Network and the Scottish Educational Action Group committee, which is part of the Scottish Diabetes Group.
