Xiong Ma, MD, PhD earned his under-graduated degree from Zhenjiang Medical College in 1991 and received his doctorate degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine in 2001. Since then, Dr Ma has worked at Shanghai Renji Hospital, Shanghai Institute of Digestive Disease as attending physician, associate professor and researcher. From 2005 to 2006, he was trained as postdoctoral fellow at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Since 2007, Dr Ma has been holding the position of Vice-Director of the Shanghai Institute of Digestive Disease and Vice-Director of the Shanghai Fatty Liver Disease Research Center, respectively. He is a member of the Shanghai Society of Hepatology, the Vice-chief member of the Chinese Society of Hepatology Young Member Board. He serves as Director of Shanghai Autoimmune Liver Disease Group. He became a member of International Autoimmune Hepatitis Group since 2011. He is also a member of the editorial boards of 3 international journals including: Journal of Hepatology, Journal of Autoimmunity, Journal of Digestive Disease.

Dr Ma’s research interests are mainly focused on autoimmune liver diseases and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. He has received 4 grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the National Distinguished Young Scholarship in 2013. Dr Ma has more than 20 peer-reviewed papers in English published in international journals including Hepatology, Journal of Hepatology and Journal of Autoimmunity in last 5 years.
