Dr Fanayan received her PhD in cancer biology from University of Sydney. She has international reputation in the fields of cancer biology, glycosmics, glycoprotein enrichment, proteomics and clinical biomarker discovery. Dr Fanayan’s current research program focuses on the study of proteomics, glycoproteomics and glycans associated with cancer. Her work in recent years focused on how alterations in proteomics and glycoproteimcs of human cancer can be used to detect potential biomarkers for early detection of colon and breast cancers. Dr Fanayan’s research also focused on optimization of lectin affinity chromatography (Multi-lectin affinity chromatography and Single-lectin affinity chromatography) for enrichment of glycoproteins from biological samples. Another aspect of Dr Fanayan’s research interest is the current Human Proteome Project (HPP), which aims to verify the proteins and the genes/transcripts of the human proteome, with a particular focus of missing proteins on chromosome 7 and missing olfactory receptors.
