Phytophoto Dermatitis
Phytophoto Dermatitis also known as Lime disease or Berloque dermatitis or Margarita Photo dermatitis. It is an inflammatory reaction of skin that has been exposed to sunlight and especially UVA radiation after being made hypersensitive by contact with various plants or plant parts and especially those (as limes and celery) with high levels of psoralens and that is typically characterized by a burning sensation, blisters and erythema followed by hyper pigmentation. The symptoms of Phytophoto dermatitis vary based on severity or on cycle of the reaction, blister like patches across the skin often leads to itching and irregularly shaped. These patches appear due to contact with light- sensitizing botanical substance and plants of particular families such as umbelliferae, Rutaceae, Moraceae, Leguminosae and ultraviolet light from sun exposure. The patches generally appear on legs, hands and arms. Berloque dermatitis is caused by certain substance called bergapten found in perfume.
